The General Trias Dairy Processing Center found its new and modern home in Barangay Santiago. As further testament to the town’s continuing progress and as a symbol of the local government’s endless support to agricultural development specifically to carabao-based dairy enterprise, the Municipality of General Trias inaugurated the newly constructed General Trias Dairy Processing Center last March 5, 2010.
The Dairy Processing Center is the first of its kind in the Province of Cavite and probably the whole CALABARZON Region, made possible through the collaboration of the Local Government of General Trias, General Trias Dairy Raisers Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GTDRMPC), Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC) of the Department of Agriculture. This multi-million project is furnished with state of the art medium-scale equipment capable of processing 500 liters of raw milk per batch which can accommodate the increasing carabao’s milk production and collection of the town.
Gentri’s Best Milestone
Every great success has its small beginnings. The center started operating in 2005 in a kitchen-type processing center with one donated freezer and self acquired kitchen utensils as their equipments. It is being managed and operated by the coop members who regularly attend capacity building activities facilitated by its partner agencies such as the PCC at UPLB, Municipal Agriculture Office and the DTI-Cavite. From seven (7) dairy products, now it processes 21 dairy products and flavor-variants to include fresh milk, flavoured milk, white cheese, pastillas, yoghurt, milk-o-gel, ice candy and yema.
From General Trias Dairy Fresh Products, it is popularly known today as Gentri’s Best.
The blessing of the General Trias Dairy Processing Center was officiated by Rev. Fr. Ariel M. Lisama, Parish Priest of St. Vincent Ferrer Church. Succeeding the blessing rites were the ceremonial activities such as the unveiling of the marker and lighting of the Gentri’s Best signage to signal the formal opening of the new Dairy Processing Center.
This momentous event was graced by Mayor Jon-Jon Ferrer; Mr. In. Kim, Resident Representative of KOICA; ASEC Dennis Araullo of the Department of Agriculture; Dr. Libertado Cruz, Executive Director of PCC and Dr. Arnel del Barrio, Center Head of PCC at UPLB.
Culminating the program is the turn over of stewardship of the Dairy Processing Center to the cooperative.
The General Trias Dairy Processing Center is further aims to increase the income of farmers and dairy raisers and improve the nutritional status of the community towards better quality of life in General Trias and the rest of Cavite. This will be achieved through the continuous carabao-upgrading, utilization of appropriate technology and partnership among farmers and various stakeholders.
